315Alive! is a community-supported “Pilot Project” aimed at instigating a coordinated, innovative, diverse and inclusive system designed to provoke more Public Art. The crew has been busy since our last interview with Jacob Alan Roberts. The Westcott Walls Project is in full gear with new art covering many walls and more planned. They had also tackled the eye soar pillars below I-81 creating totem like art but sadly someone recently painted over them. We discussed the differences between graffiti culture and a complete, archival piece of art. 315Alive! wants to be part of the beautification of our city. Many of the artists volunteer their time and materials but they are also working with the area’s main paint suppliers to sponsor projects. Business owners can contact Jacob Alan Roberts to work on ideas. One of the next big projects planned is a dedication mural to Eli Harris Jr. Robert’s Boom Babies mural will be getting a make over.
Roberts is also focused on opening Edible Cafe across from XO Taco on Fayette. The cafe will house local art and goods. They will have many varieties of coffee and include vegan food options. Follow their progress on Instagram @ediblesyr. The Grand Opening is slated for September 2nd.
