I talked to Rob McCall, frontman of indie rock band All Poets & Heroes, about their new acoustic video series. You’re going to enjoy the different settings and versions of these beautifully crafted songs. McCall’s thoughtful lyrics and pristine vocals combined with Jordan’s unique guitar sounds create songs that hold your attention. The addition of The Old Main’s bassist Nash Robb and Zack Fitzgerald on guitar add new layers to be explored. Rob Zaccaria keeps it all flowing together on drums. This band is always evolving. Follow them and Subscribe to their YouTube channel to keep up with their projects.
MT:  You have an acoustic video series premiering on YouTube. I know this is something you had talked to Ty Marshall about at Center for the Arts in Homer. Tell me about this project.
RM: Doing an acoustic series is something we’ve always wanted to do. We love YouTube pages like The Mahogany Sessions, NPR Tiny Desk, La Bibleoteque and others that showcase stripped down versions of songs.  Since getting invited to do something like NPR is very difficult, we figured we would just make our own. However, making videos can be expensive. So the idea was put on hold for awhile. In the end it was Nash who made it seem like we could do it ourselves. So we recorded all the sound and video ourselves.
MT: How many videos will there be? What’s the release schedule?
RM: There are five videos total. ‘Cruel’ and ‘The Corner’ were released in June, and ’Man in the Crowd’ and ‘Monument’ have just been released. The final video for ‘Teeth’ will be released on the 20th with an Instagram Live viewing party.
MT: How did you choose the locations?
RM: Luckily we know some really good people. Ty Marshall is a friend of the band’s, and he works down at the beautiful Homer Center for the Arts. As you mentioned before, Ty and I had spoke about doing something like this before, so when we called and asked if we could use the space, there was no hesitation.
The other location was Rudy Schmid Total Car Care, which happens to be owned and operated by my mom Diane, and my uncle Paul (PJ). I grew up in that space, and it being a big part of my life makes shooting a video there a bit special. Also, that paint booth looks so cool, right?
MT: Absolutely. It’s a very cool setting. Are these all new songs from your upcoming album?
RM: Yes, all of the songs are off the upcoming album Occhiolism, except for ‘The Corner.’ Which is kind of an strange idea – releasing alternate versions of an album no one has heard yet. But we thought that it might get people excited about hearing the fully produced tracks, as well as be able to hear some new music during this crazy time.
MT: You’re working with a label now. How’s that going? Any plans you can reveal?
RM: Yes, on the 1st of this year we signed to Flight Entertainment Records! So far it’s been great working with them. The only thing I can reveal is that we’ll be releasing the final single, ‘Wine Song,’ from the upcoming album at the end of August; and that the album is due out in October. Some of the other fun stuff we’re keeping a secret.
MT: Quarantine put a lot on hold. How have your band members been affected? What creative projects have come out of this time?
RM: Yeah…these last few months have made the world stand still more than a few times. As a band, and as individuals, it’s been a good time to reflect and reassess what’s important. It has been good to slow down, and make sure we’re going down the right path. With the down time, Corey and I have been writing and working out demos of new songs in the simple home studio I have set up. We’ve also been listening back to the mixes from the upcoming album and making sure they’re perfect.
MT: Where can fans find all of your material?
RM: Check out the acoustic series on YouTube, and follow us on Instagram and Facebook for more updates about the watch party and t-shirt give away on July 20th!
