Allison Goss Steps Into the Spotlight For the First Time in “Do You Read Me”

The Theater Arts Youth Academy (TAYA) was started last year as a place for students between the ages of 8 and 18 to come and learn about all aspects of live theater. And until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they were meeting in the Frances Marion Brown Theater at the Civic Arts Center for classes, attending workshops at the college, traveling to Auburn to participate in practicums in dance, music, and had attended a professional production at the famous Merry Go Round Theater. Then boom! All that had to stop.

But not to be totally defeated, TAYA has been able to come together in a totally different realm of theater. And with their recent on demand production of “Do You Read Me,” have “hit it out of the park” in the world of virtual theater.

When Norm Berlin, Director of this play, held Zoom auditions, he expected to see some familiar faces. However, he was more than thrilled to meet a few new personalities on their computer screens as well. When it came to casting the show, Norm was thrilled to invite newcomer Allison Goss to take the role of Jess. Allison has lived up to all Norm’s expectations by showing her natural talent for make believe. Here’s a bit of what she had to say about herself…

“Allison Goss is a nine-year-old girl, soon to be ten. This is her first play. What got her into acting is the fact that she looked at the people on TV and thought, “Hey! They look like they’re having a lot of fun doing that…I should try it!” The online play ‘Do You Read Me?’ was her chance, and she knew she would have fun. She is excited to act with this talented group of children. Allison likes art, singing, Roblox and chatting with friends on Messenger, and she likes to watch YouTube and play Minecraft with her brother. She also takes Taekwondo so don’t mess with her! Allison is so excited to do this play and she hopes you enjoy it!”

So let’s take her suggestion to heart folks. Getting a Viewer Ticket is easy and once you have one ticket you can watch the show over and over again. Now how great is that? Viewer tickets are $10 and once you are registered with Broadway On Demand, you can watch any of their productions. Go to www.oswegoplayers.org and click on TICKETS. The show runs again this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
