SUMMARY:Cerus Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Cooperstown Concerts is thrilled to present Cerus Quartet\, Thursday\, April 16\, 2026\, 7:30 PM at the Fenimore Art Museum. Emerging as one of the most compelling chamber ensembles of their generation\, Cerus showcases the dynamic and versatile sound of the saxophone quartet\, with a repertoire spanning contemporary compositions and classical masterworks.\nCerus seeks to establish the saxophone quartet as a leading voice in 21st-century concert music. The quartet champions both new music and timeless repertoire. Their unique programming approach – pairing newly commissioned works with transcriptions of classical mainstays – has earned them critical acclaim and competition success\, and has also shaped a distinctive ensemble sound\, allowing them to seamlessly adapt to a wide range of performance settings and musical styles.\nBased in Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, the quartet includes Roberto Campa (soprano)\, Laura Ramsay (alto)\, Kyle Kato (tenor)\, and Samuel Dishon (baritone). The quartet’s name draws from Greek mythology – Cerus was a wild bull transformed by the goddess Persephone\, a story of chaos tamed into beauty. This myth mirrors the quartet’s artistic vision: to reimagine the saxophone as a medium of beauty and expressive depth\, deserving of a central role in 21st-century concert music.\nThey have recently been named the winner of the 2025 Concert Artists Guild Louis and Susan Meisel Competition and have received the Gold Medal in the 2025 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition\, First Prize in the 2024 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition\, and First Prize and the Michigan Prize in the 2023 Briggs Competition.\nTICKETS – Adult $35Student (with College ID) $10Youth $10 (ages 6 to 18)Children ages 5 and under are free.\nThis concert is sponsored by Bieritz Insurance Agency\, and by Wayne Bank\, our 2025-2026 Season Sponsor. 2025-2026 Season Programs are made possible in part by a grant from the Scriven Foundation\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Nathan Avakian
DESCRIPTION:Back for the annual Christmas Concert\, The Empire State Theatre & Musical Instrument Museum is proud to announce a special program of music entertainment featuring Nathan Avakian as he performs on the Mighty Syracuse Wurlitzer Unit Orchestra. Nathan is from New York City and he performs on many of the famous theatre organs all throughout the United States.\nThis special program commemorates the centennial of Wurlitzer Opus 1143 – built in August 1925 in North Tonawanda\, New York and shipped to the RKO Keith’s Theatre in Syracuse New York. In 1966 this instrument was saved from demolition by dedicated volunteers and relocated to the New York State Fairgrounds where it was completely restored to original factory specifications and has since entertained countless audiences for nearly 60 years. This celebration marks 100 years of one of New York State’s preeminent and historically significant pipe organs used principally for entertainment and the accompaniment of silent films. The Syracuse Wurlitzer is preserved as an original example of the American theatre pipe organ and honored to be placed on National Registry of Historic and Significant Instruments by the American Theatre Organ Society. In 2016\, Wurlitzer Opus 1143 was designated as a National Heritage Pipe Organ by the Organ Historical Society and designated as an Organ of Historical Significance\, Worthy of Preservation.\nDoors open at 1:30pm – General seating tickets are available at the door prior to the program….Please bring cash!\nRefreshments will be served during intermission and special tours of the organ pipe chambers will be held following the program.\nFounded in 1966\, the non-profit Empire State Theatre & Musical Instrument Museum is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents as an Educational Organization. It is located in the Harriet May Mills Art & Home Center on the New York State Fairgrounds. The Wurlitzer organ was built in 1925 for the former RKO Keith’s Theatre in downtown Syracuse where it was used principally for silent film accompaniment and musical interludes. It was saved and reinstalled permanently in the Empire Theatre at the State Fairgrounds as the centerpiece of the theatre and musical instrument museum.\nMore information about the museum is available at https://www.facebook.com/SyracuseWurlitzer.\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n Like this:Like Loading...
