Off the Mountain is Aran West\, lead vocals\, harmonica and rhythm guitar\, and Susan Moses\, lead guitar\, harmonies\, and mandolin. Aran grew up listening and singing to WRFG Radio Free Georgia in Atlanta and playing a variety ofinstruments (none of them the guitar) until the pandemic brought the threat of layoffs—and a new guitar “just in case.” In contrast\, Susan has been playing guitar since the age of six\, joining in the Sunday jams with her extended family at her grandma’s house in the North Carolina Piedmont. Susan recently took up the mandolin and she can’t stop playing it! Growing up in the South in the 60s and 70s\, Aran and Susan were both naturally influenced by old-time music\, bluegrass\, country\, blues and rock.
