SUMMARY:Syracuse Guitar League
DESCRIPTION:Doors open: 6:00pmOpening Set: GL member Bryan Dickenson\, 6:30pmMain Presenters: Mustard’s Retreat\, 7:00pmBreakout Sessions\, 8:00pm\nMustard”s Retreat (Libby Glover & David Tamulevich)\nMustard’s Retreat has always sung the songs they enjoyed and cared about\, regardless of the trends of the music industry and pop culture. They are committed to simply being themselves\, not chasing fame or brass rings\, while delighting in and connecting with their audiences as if they were family. The honesty of what they present onstage and the extensive body of outstanding original songs and recordings all contribute to a fiercely loyal audience that continues to grow. “Music to cure what ails you” was how one reviewer in the 1970s described them\, and that is as true now as it was then.\nThey’ have traveled more than a million miles and performed more than 6\,000 shows\, from pig roasts and pool parties to Lincoln Center Out of Doors\, The Barns at Wolftrap and the Kennedy’s Center’s Millennium Stage.\nTheir performances are always joyful and uplifting\, as well as intelligent\, thought provoking and insightful. They’ve recently begun referring to their career and touring as “Defiantly Hopeful.” In part due to their long career\, but more as a statement about what the music has meant to them. “Folk music is\, at its heart\, defiantly hopeful!” Tamulevich says. “We came of age in the 60s\, at the confluence of Pete Seeger\, Peter\, Paul & Mary\, Bob Dylan and the singer/songwriter revolution. We care much more about what we do and stand for and finding that common ground with our audiences\, than fame or money. This is our community of choice\, and we consider ourselves so fortunate to be here.” See https://www.mustardsretreat.com/ for more information.\nBreakout Sessions:Those attending the meeting have the opportunity to participate in one of the following four breakout / workshop sessions:\nRookies: GL member Mary Golanka will talk with the Rookies about building chords on the guitar.\nRookies & Rusties: GL member Jim Flynn will lead the group in learning to sing and play the following 5 songs:Spooky – Classics IV… Key of EmJailhouse Rock – Elvis… Key of AAll My Lovin’ – The Beatles… Key of DmTeach Your Children Well – Crosby\, Stills & Nash … Key of DBlue Suede Shoes – Carl Perkins … Key of AIn addition\, to your acoustic guitar\, please print out the song sheets (sent out by Jim Flynn in his Sept. 29th email) for your own use\, and bring a music stand if you own one. This group ideal for those learning to sing and play their guitar at same time and for those looking to add additional songs to their repertoire.\nSong CircleGL member Bob Raymonda will moderate this breakout session. Please bring copies of the songs (original or cover tunes)\, if you would like to have others in the group accompany you on the songs you lead. This breakout session is ideal for those looking to hone their performance skills for open mics or other gigs and for those who want to become more comfortable playing in a jam circle environment.\nPlease bring your acoustic guitar with you so you can derive the greatest benefit from participating in these various breakout sessions. Guitar League is a “judgement free zone” where guitar players of all ability levels can learn\, play and share for both their own benefit\, as well as the benefit of the other GL members with whom they share their love of music and of playing the guitar.\nSpeaking on behalf the leadership team and all the members of Guitar League\, we look forward to seeing you at the meeting.\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n Like this:Like Loading...
