SUMMARY:Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble
DESCRIPTION:Louisiana native Curley Taylor has been around music all of his life. Born into a musical family\, drums were Curley’s first instrument. Curley began his professional career at age 16 by playing drums in his father’s band\, Jude Taylor and the Burning Flames\, a band deep in Louisiana Blues\, Soul and Zydeco.\nBy the age of 25\, Curley had played drums with some of Louisiana’s musical legends\, including: CC Adcock\, Steve Riley\, John Hart\, “L’il” Bob and the Lollipops\, and his uncles\, “L’il” Buck Senegal and Wayne “Blue” Burns. He toured with CJ Chenier\, son of the “King of Zydeco” Clifton Chenier\, and a Zydeco legend in his own right.\nWhile traveling with CJ Chenier’s band\, he became interested in playing the accordion and found he really enjoyed it. Curley purchased his first accordion and\, within six months\, had learned to play. He was told that he “played the accordion and the drums with great emotion and natural feeling.”\nCurley’s friends and fellow musicians Keith Clements (keyboards) and Eric Minx (drums) encouraged him to start his own band. Around this same time\, he received a job offer to play drums for one of the most popular zydeco bands in Louisiana – Geno Delafose and French Rockin Boogie. Curley put his ambitions for his own band on hold to play and tour internationally with French Rockin Boogie for several years. DESCRIPTION:Free Range Vocals is a circle singing and vocal improv workshop facilitated by Colleen Kattau every 3rd Monday of the month. A no pressure loving space to connect with others and (re)claim our voices. All welcome\, no previous vocal experience needed. Techniques from Bobby McFerrin’s Circle-song and Rhiannon’s Vocal River Series.$10-$20 Sliding Scale Donation to Pink Rock Culture Co-op. Pay What You Can.If you have a voice you can sing! The music is out there\, and all around us and within us. When we open to it\, it comes to us and through us. Free Range is participatory workshop based on vocal maestro Bobbie McFerrin’s Circle-song and improv artist Rhiannon’s Vocal River Series all of which is collective creative singing. We’ll warm up with deep listening\, breathing\, and exercises to open the voice and throat to sing. We’ll practice ‘music in motion’ and share the circle in improvised song. Participants will try their hand at facilitating if they feel moved. Let’s see what we can invent together!Starting this year\, there needs to be RSVP Ticket of minimum of 5 people by 2-days advance of each event date for the class to be held. DESCRIPTION:House of Hamill owes its existence – almost entirely – to a series of canceled flights. \nRose Baldino and Brian Buchanan first found themselves onstage together at the 2014 Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City. \nRose’s band Burning Bridget Cleary was scheduled to perform\, but inclement weather prevented two of her bandmates from flying. Desperate to salvage the showcase\, Rose approached Brian\, who she knew fronted Canadian celtic rock band Enter the Haggis. She thrust a guitar into Brian’s hands\, pulled him onstage\, and the two just clicked. \nFour years and hundreds of shows later\, the duo was booked to play a closing slot at a Colorado festival\, so they hired a bass player and drummer to fill out their sound. By the oddest of coincidences\, their hired bandmates’ flights were canceled the day of the show. A frantic Facebook post introduced Brian and Rose to local musician Caroline Browning\, who joined them on bass for the weekend.
