DESCRIPTION:The Setnor School of Music students unite to honor the victims of violence and terrorism\, including those who perished in the Pan Am 103 Air Disaster. In reflection of the loss of life\, University Singers joins Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra (SUSO) and the Hendricks Chapel Choir to commemorate victims of violence and the start of Remembrance Week.\nPerforming Requiem by Herbert Howells\, the University Singers will take on a composition that explores personal tragedy and the strife between grief and faith that often follows in its wake. The Symphony Orchestra presents Phoenix Rising by Thea Musgrave\, artfully articulating the journey of tragedy to peace. Musgrave sought to encapsulate a single movement from darkness\, represented by low and fast music\, to light\, high and slow music.\nThe choral ensemble comprises more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students of different disciplines\, and most recently concluded a tour in João Pessoa\, Brazil. SUSO boasts a repertoire of works spanning four centuries and compositions meld pieces from Beethoven with 20th-century styles.\nThe Malmgren Concert Series of Hendricks Chapel has been made possible by a generous gift from Syracuse University alumna Ester Malmgren to Hendricks Chapel in 1991. The concert series offers the Syracuse community the highest quality of arts at no cost.
