New England Conservatory alumna Betsy Hinkle merges music with empowerment through community-focused musical programming. In 2007 Hinkle founded MusiConnects\, a nonprofit which offers an education in music to underserved communities in the Boston area.\nAfter several years as a teacher\, she sought to use her experience to craft a unique curriculum for neighborhoods often excluded from fine art training. Prioritizing empathy\, equity and excellence\, the teachings are referred to as the Hinkle Approach. And right now she is taking the biggest bull by the horns as she navigates her treatments for stage 3 colorectal cancer.\n\nThere have been upticks and setbacks along the way\, but the one constant through all of this has been her fiance\, Eric. He transports her back and forth to Rochester\, and never leaves her side. Her kids\, Christian and Bella have also been there through all of it.\n\nNow it’s our turn.
