Guest Artist / Main Presenter: Singer / Songwriter Greg Hoover
For Greg Hoover, there was never a time where musical entertainment was not a part of his early environment. Born into a rodeo and show business father’s surroundings, Greg was influenced by the cowboy singers like the Sons of the Pioneers, Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry, who were always part of his life in the days of the Col. Jim Eskew Rodeo, which played many national cities and dates from it’s Waverly, NY eastern ranch location.
A Home Builder in CNY for decades, in about 2006, Greg joined the Guitar League to get back into playing guitar and truly enjoyed sharing with and being encouraged by GL Rookies, Minors and Majors that comprise GL. As a songwriter, guitar and piano player with 3 Albums published to his credit, Greg’s musical credentials are both numerous and substantial. He has performed over 1000 shows and festivals across the USA and Canada. He has multiple SAMMY nominations to his credit and has been fortunate to have many recordings and collaborations with many of CNY’s outstanding musicians.
Greg’s performance / presentation for this Guitar League meeting will focus on his experiences, stories, travels, lessons and methods acquired during his 20 yrs of songwriting, singing and performing. His stories both in prose and in song are very entertaining and will be useful to Guitar League members of all skill levels.
Breakouts:
Song Circle: Felicity Peters or Bob Raymonda) will lead the song circle again this month. Bring an original or cover tune you are working on to play for the circle.
Rookies and Rusties Seesion: Jim Flynn sent out this month’s song sheets this week to those on the Guitar League Google group email list. Check your email and if you didn’t receive the email with the song sheets, let Bob Lewis know by replying to this email.
Fingerpicking for Rookies and Rusties: Jeff Stanton sent out this month’s songs last week. If you didn’t receive them, let Bob Lewis know by replying to this email.
To derive the maximum benefit and fun from these breakout sessions, please bring your acoustic guitar with you to the meeting. No one is ever pressured to play in any of these breakout sessions, but most guitar players attending their first GL meeting feel comfortable enough in Guitar League’s judgement-free environment that they wind up playing right along with the others in these group breakout sessions.
That being said, we look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Oh, by the way, attendance at your first regular Guitar League meeting is always free of charge. So join us at the meeting and see if Guitar League would be a good fit for you!
