The Syracuse , NY Chapter of Guitar League

No upcoming dates scheduled.

The Syracuse , NY chapter of Guitar League has a very full, informative and entertaining itinerary planned for our Monday, August 3rd meeting. Here are the details: 6:00pm: Doors to the venue open.
6:30pm: A 30 minute opening set will be performed by Guitar League members Ed Morgan and Mark DiGennaro. 7:00pm: Our special guest artist / main presenter, Sydney Irving takes the stage for an entertaining and informative hour “must see” performance / presentation. In some ways, singer-songwriter-guitarist Sydney Irving experienced one uplifting experience that came out of the recent Covid19 pandemic. “It first happened when I was a junior in high school, and like so many other kids my age, I had to learn to survive in the isolated, sheltered environment of my parent’s home,” says Irving. “What kept me sane was my ability to focus on my music. I spent most of my time playing guitar and writing songs in my room. Many of the songs that appear on my newest album Unfashioned Creatures, grew out of that musically creative period in my life.” Whether performing before thousands at outdoor festivals or for more intimate crowds at a winery or listening room, Irving remains committed to putting on the best performance possible. “Sometimes when I get up on a stage, I question my confidence. Then, I realize I have to get up there and give people a show,” says Irving, who started doing live gigs at the age of 14. Sydney has shared the stage with notable acts such as Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, Martina McBride, Jesse McCartney, Gavin DeGraw, and Thompson Square. One unforgettable highlight of her stage career was joining Barns Courtney during his concert, where they performed his hit song “You & I” together. Another major moment came in 2024 when Sydney was invited to perform onstage with country rockers Midland during their concert in Verona, NY. Their performance of “14 Gears” went viral, garnering over 80,000 views across social media and introducing her to an even wider audience. Her electrifying performances and magnetic stage presence have earned her a dedicated following mainly in Central New York State, however, she is now poised for international recognition. Her weekly Tuesday night live podcast called “A-SIDES, B-SIDES and COVERS,” on Instagram and Facebook has attained a huge audience, including a loyal legion of fans from South America, Europe, and throughout the United States and Canada. She is also the youngest artist to be endorsed by Breedlove Guitars. Sydney Irving’s new album, “Unfashioned Creatures” is out now. Listen everywhere! 8:00pm – 9:00pm: Three concurrent breakout sessions will take place following the conclusion of Sydney’s performance / presentation. These breakout sessions are planned so that there is something to be learned for every level of guitar player from beginner to seasoned professional, so be sure to bring your acoustic guitar to the meeting in order to derive the maximum fun and benefit from the breakout session of your choice. All GL breakout sessions are conducted in a welcoming, judgement-free environment as everyone taking part is there with the goal of having fun and learning additional skills. The Rookies and Rusties Breakout session will take place under the leadership of Jim Sheridan. In this session, the group will tackle six 3 or 4 chord songs under Jim’s instruction. Songs on this month’s list include: Sundown (Gordon Lightfoot), Runnin’ Down A Dream (Tom Petty), One After 909 (The Beatles), Knocking on Heaven’s Door (Bob Dylan), Cracklin’ Rosie (Neil Diamond) and Bad Moon Rising (Creedence Clearwater Revival). Rookies and Rusties (Fingerpicking Instruction) is being conducted under the leadership of Jeff Stanton. The song, Five Hundred Miles, will be the subject of this month’s instruction. The Song Circle breakout will be led by Bob Raymonda. This breakout session is for folks that are working on writing and performing their own songs, as well as for guitar players / singers that are polishing their performance skills for open mics, stage gigs or even more formal jam circles. Cover tunes are also welcome. Please bring copies of lyrics and chords to any song you wish to share, especially if you would like others in the circle to accompany you during your performance. If you have any questions about the upcoming meeting, please contact our chapter leader Bob Lewis by email at [email protected] or by phone or text at (315) 882-8704.
