Come for the waffles, stay for the music. Any Night.

Want to see the happiest looking keyboardist in Syracuse? Get your body (and dancing shoes!) down to Funk and Waffles on Clinton Street any given Monday. Starting promptly at 9 pm — give or take a few minutes — Pearly Baker’s Best will soothe your soul with their mix of Grateful Dead songs and covers of other songs in the style of The Dead. Their devoted fans are dubbed “The Monday Night Faithful.” But no worried for the newcomer — all are welcome to find their space on the dance floor, or simply groove in the sidelines.

On a recent Monday night, Keyboardist Brian Lauri. danced as he sits at the keys, jamming away to tunes such as “Taxman,” “On the Road Again,” and “Candyman.” Guitarist Charley Orlando lends sweet vocals on “Queen Jane, Approximately.” Eric Brown on lead guitar and Eric Wise on bass trade vocals with Brian L. and Charley through the night.

Coordinated rhythms by Brian Welch and Tim Bergen (Two drummers!) round out the sound of this sextet of local musicians. This band pulls out a completely different selection of songs for each of their Monday night performances. In addition to the previously mentioned songs, their first set also included: El Paso, We Can Run, and Picasso Moon.
