I sat down with Jonas Reddy-Nicholson last summer and he has delivered another album as promised. As Evil Key he raps and mixes in his smooth, calming vocals creating a down to earth vibe. The lyrics hit with a check to reality but dose us with some mind transcending phrases. Once in awhile you get a glimpse into his Vaporeyes band’s sound but this project stands on it’s own. Equally interesting is the album art and videography.
Am I happy? Would it matter if I wasn’t? At least I’m not lying like I used to, high like I used to. Now I just drift. – Happy
Each song has a unique intro that separates the songs from another. Nicholson dives deep in this lyric heavy project. It feels like he’s all at once telling his story, your story, or maybe you are telling yourself a story… mind blown. We talked about the idea of true art and how it should be left to some interpretation by the consumer. Connecting to the art is what it’s all about. I felt this idea of drifting, searching and coming back. “No Exorcism” has a dreamy seductive sound and goes on a journey of it’s own. You’ll be able to access all lyrics on bandcamp.
“Out of sight but never far in a sense, for what it’s worth I know it’s really hard to get your life back so I’ma switch it up, never typecast, I live my life fast, staring at the void and learned to write”- Still Here
“Concord” ends the album on a really hopeful note. “Wake myself up. Asleep is no way to live and I’ve had enough. Breathe. I’m only human and I have everything I need.” I enoyed the experience Nicholson created and shared with us. The Host will be available physically on CD and digitally on all streaming platforms. Access it on the main Evil Key website and all streaming platforms here. ALBUM RELEASE DATE: Friday, February 5th
