Featuring a one-night-only “Pop Up” Contemporary Art Gallery, a slate of Live Music & Performance during sunset at Weekends on Walton, as well as a full evening of Electronic Music, DJs & Dance, including LED Smart Light, Video & Multimedia projections in an underground club, ripe with an eclectic selection of locally-made foods and beverages, as well as a full range of locally-made beers, seltzers and ciders from the popular Buried Acorn Brewery.
Crystal City Creative Spaces, a Syracuse-based Community Development Company was established in 2020 to rejuvenate vacant, residential, mixed-use and commercial properties to support the area’s rising creative sector. This single night promotional event, an anticipated downtown art gala, is a long awaited, covid-delayed, public launch of the open-membership organization, highlighting some of CNY area’s greatest emerging and established talent; from painters, photographers, fashion designers, musicians, DJs, MCs and dancers, to artisanal food and beverage makers.
A bold, bright and colorful Art Gallery opens in the building’s concourse at 5:30p with a special classical dance performance from Syracuse University PhD, Dr. Roxanne Gupta. The walls will be adorned by pop, street and contemporary art from Misse Thomas, Fletch Crangle, John Deer, Jason Clifford Vincent, Isaiah Robinson, Tony Washington and the company’s founder and managing partner, Jacob Alan Roberts, to name a few.
The show’s décor is provided by Found Things Co. in Eastwood, with live loom work, weaving and textile making with Kristin Weigl in the earlier hours. Light fare, Recess Coffee & Roastery and social_inequality Stoic Tea will be served in the Gallery.
Live music from local powerhouse performers Amanda Rogers, Cait Devin and Coughlin will be outside on the “sunset stage” on Walton Street from 6:15p – 8:00p, followed by an “underground” club night experience with an opening set by local celebrity DJ Bella J from On The One at DestiNY USA, followed by a midnight reggae band and old school rave DJs, True Risen and Dj Sean Place, closing out the night with live MCs Chad Boogz, Ruland Coit and other local nightlife all-stars.
The former Empire Brewery space, down under the historic Bentley Settle Building, will be stocked with an array of savory and sweet food from The Hops Spot, Otro Cinco, Cure Delicatessen & Provisions, Cakes by Chloe Danes, C’s CBD creations and more, Our Secret Delights alcohol-infused ice cream, as well as adult beverages from Buried Acorn Brewing Company. 21+ only after 9pm. Sliding scale entry fee after 9p.
The event name? 2021 marks the beginning of a new solar cycle, number 25. A “solar maximum” period represents the stretch of greatest Sun activity during the 11-year cycle in which large numbers of sunspots appear, irradiance output grows, and massive solar flares and CME’s are at their peak. It is also LEO season, a time ruled by the Sun.
Syracuse, New York has experienced its own decades-long cycles of rise and decline, of lull and activity, of pain and prosperity. Crystal City | Creative Spaces looks to become an innovative, enterprising vehicle for community-supported real estate investments, city planning and neighborhood development. GRAND SOLAR MAXIMUM is an event to coax out the livity and celebration of life during some of our most challenging times – to LIGHT IT UP!
This means giving local Syracusans, many of whom lack background, resources or proficiency in conventional property development, a means to band together to make long-term, stabilizing, and strategic investments that will help transform their community for the better. And, because we are an income generating business, we will provide owners with a return on their investment. This launch event is the beginning of unpacking That process and strategy.
The general public is encouraged to attend, along with current Membership, friends and family, to learn more, to network, enjoy local creative output and to begin to re-activate a pulse of positive energy after a long, scary year.
More about Crystal City | Creative Spaces, LLC:
* We are a Syracuse-based, privately owned and cooperatively managed community development consortium comprised of local people, groups, organizations, companies and institutions;
* We focus on making grass-roots, neighborhood directed investments in real estate, vacant property, under-utilized lands, and a variety of commercial, residential and mixed-use buildings that offer support, infrastructure, material and opportunity for the fast emerging “creative sector”. From traditional fine artists, painters, writers, musicians, dancers etc, to those working on the cutting edge of innovation and next-generation designs, solutions and technologies, this is our niche;
* We leverage the power of local citizen engagement to generate quality, long-term plans that address specific needs and fill an array of gaps in the current “economic and community development” paradigm. Our diverse network of committed and vested professionals help to identify emerging talent, burgeoning entrepreneurs, trending ideas and provide other tips that can lead us to incubating and supporting a prospective venture, and making sure that the creatives have early equity;
* At launch of a vetted business plan, whether it be a start-up “mom and pop” storefront or a new property acquisition, we facilitate a publicly demanded, market tested, patron / client-sponsored Top Down / Bottom Up financing and investment strategy that takes full advantage of newly enacted SEC & IRS legislation, while building long-term generational wealth for those who are traditionally left out of the conversation: artists, performers, makers, oddball inventors, and trend setters;
* In the end, we have a shared mission to support the Arts and Culture of the region; to promote new thinking and other outside-of-the-box initiatives that harness creative energy and positive self-expression for “good”. Providing a mix of brick and mortar opportunity, material provisions, administrative support, networking and securing private investment is our key.
