A wise man named Jack once said…..“Sometimes it’s not about being dealt a good hand, but playing a bad hand well.”
Misse Thomas: Jack O Bocchino was loved by the music community and is missed very much. What prompted you and Mark Macri to take on this fundraiser and tribute?
Julia Banach: First and foremost our love for Jack, we wanted to keep his loving spirit alive. Every year Jack would secretly cook Thanksgiving meals for people, regardless of his battle with cancer or the toll the chemo was having on him. Jack was passionate about the arts and had a deep love for music, capturing most through his lens. Jack didn’t ever want money or recognition for helping others. All he would ask is that if you’re ever in a position where you’re able to help someone else someday then do it, it didn’t matter how. Jack instilled that in his children, Amanda, Jen & Dan as well. If you are fortunate to help you do so! Jack inspired me/us and always supported me. We wanted to continue that passion Jack had for his community and others.
MT: You exceeded the fundraising goal in just a week. That’s amazing but I’m not surprised. I’ve seen some incredible things from this community. I’m sure he’s smiling down on us for that. Jack was a huge supporter and fundraiser himself. He deserves to be recognized. Do you plan to make this an annual event?
JB: Within 6 days we passed our goal we had set, it’s very exciting and heart warming!! After the dust settles, We will be applying for a tax ID number, to make JacksGiving a legit charity. Donations and funds will be divided into three: box dinners (turkey and all the Thanksgiving staples) to pass out to anyone in need, backpacks full of supplies for In My Father’s Kitchen and the remainder of the money will go to Saint Baldrick’s. These are Jack’s Trifecta (Jackfecta) of charities that he worked with and donated to. We plan on making this bigger and better every year. Unfortunately with the circumstances of the world this year, our hands are a bit tied. Sadly, it’s hard not to know someone who hasn’t been affected by cancer.
