Jess Novak Band Lights up The Turquoise Tiger at Exit 33

The Jess Novak Band is well known for their energetic performances. Even more to me as a member of the audience all I saw was a family of smiles on stage. A variety of talented musicians enjoying the music, each other and the audience. The Turquois Tiger was packed this night and the Turquois Lounge was the perfect venue for their second studio album “Fireworks & Fairytales” CD release party.

From Left to Right: Nick Fields (trumpet), Melissa Gardiner (trombone), Anthony Saturno (guitar),Billy Harrison (drums), Jess Novak (violin, vocals, guitar, percussion), Jose Varona (percussion) and Mark Nanni (keys, accordion, vocals)

The color backdrop give light to the Jess Novak Band’s special blend of Funk, Jazz and Blues. Mark Nanni on Keys and Accordion plays and sings many songs including Steam Roller, one of my favorites. Anthony Saturno on guitar pulls of great driving blues leads. Jose Varona on percussion and the producer of the album, Billy Harrison an extremely versatile musician keeps the beat and does with class, with a horn section made up of Melissa Gardiner and Nick Fields you can’t go wrong. These two can bring you back to the Tommy Dorsey and Miles Davis days and right back to modern day Jazz. All this talent is lead by the energetic, always smiling Jess Novak. Jess plays violin, guitar, percussion and has a voice that will knock you on your ass and back up again.

You can’t sit still when JNB plays, you just won’t want to, you will want to be a part of the event not just as a visitor but a member of the experience. After the show it really showed what a family they are  and the connection to each other. Their smiles are as genuine and their music. I don’t know why the whole world hasn’t jumped on the Jess Novak Funk Train.
