Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Jess Novak, will release her seventh original album on December 31, 2018 – Fear is the Cage. Love is the Key. This 16-track double-disc features songs new and old, capturing emotions of fear and love.
“The idea came from conversations with Robyn Stockdale, who designed the album art,” Novak says. “I wanted to split the songs to make them more effective and the more we listened and talked about them, the more I realized they spoke directly to themes of love and fear. With the way the world is now, I felt there couldn’t be anything more appropriate to talk about. Though many of the lyrics and stories are personal, they speak to universal emotions. I love that the discs start with feelings of fear, pain, and jealousy, but end in a celebration of love and freedom.”
Novak wrote all of the songs on the double-disc and contributes vocals, background vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, organ, percussion, and violin.
The album also features members of The Jess Novak Band (Byron Cage, Anthony Saturno, Billy Harrison, Melissa Gardiner, Nick Fields) Loren Barrigar, Joey Arcuri (of Driftwood) and Ben Wayne. All songs were recorded and produced at MoreSound Recording Studios in Syracuse, NY with producer Jose Varona. Songs were mastered by Jason “Jocko” Randall.
A formal CD release party will be set for February 2019 at The Listening Room in Syracuse, NY (details to follow) and Novak’s next EP is already in the works, recorded at OmniSound Studios in Nashville, TN with producer Bill Warner.
Jess Novak is based out of Syracuse, NY and has been a full-time musician since 2013. She performs solo, with her duo (Safe Word, with Ben Wayne) and with her full band – The Jess Novak Band. Throughout each show she plays a variety of instruments spanning guitar, violin, piano, percussion, and voice, also using a loop pedal to put on a full-band solo show. She’s released seven albums in six years and was voted Best Female Vocalist in the Syracuse New TimesBest of Awards in 2018. JNB’s album Inches from the Sun also won a Syracuse Area Music Award for Best Pop in 2016.
