The first icy kiss of winter sends us searching for the coziest, most pleasant place to hang out. On Tuesday, that place was The Ridge in Chittenango. Don’t let the address fool you! This is just a short drive out of Manlius. The food was delicious, their fireplace was burning, and the musicians were, metaphorically speaking, on fire! We were treated to nearly four hours of powerfully performed covers of John Hiatt songs.
John Hiatt songwriting skills are legendary among the music community. This was strongly indicated by the number of area musicians who were in the audience. They came to watch the show even though they were not performing! Gracing the stage were: Jamie Notarthomas, Lisa Lee, Mark Westers, Lennie Milano, Phil Smith, Brian Welch, Tim Burns, Lorne Coon, Scott Wilson, John Dancks, Tom Hillenbrand, Mark Hoffman, Chuck Schiele, Len Widdenkind, Dan Coley, Dave Rybinski, Judson Powell, Mark Ballard, Brian Dickenson, Thomas Hogan and Don Martin. Highlights of the show are too many to mention here, but this reviewer especially enjoyed Lisa Lee’s “Bonnie Raitt” delivery of “A Thing Called Love” as well as Lorne Coon’s powerful and deft bass and vocals on “Tennessee Plates.”
We will look forward to the next tribute night (TBA) coming in December! In the meantime, here are some upcoming events at The Ridge:
