October is pretty amazing. We get that in between time where the days are warm and the nights are cool. The changing leaves and soft breeze make us want to get outside. The evening darkness settles in earlier and creates the perfect setting to go out to our favorite venues.
Monday

Guitar League, Syracuse Chapter is a welcoming organization where guitar players of all ability levels meet monthly to share their love of the guitar and playing guitar in a judgement-free environment. Our next meeting takes place on Monday evening, Oct. 7th … Here is what we have planned for those in attendance.
Doors open: 6:00pm
Opening Set: 6:30pm
Minor Wave acoustic guitar duo (Maryann Gorman and GL member Joanne Sherwood),
Main Presenter: 7:00pm -Jess Novak
Jess Novak is a triple threat singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. She accompanies her powerful vocals and captivating songs with nuanced performances on guitar, keyboard and electric violin / fiddle.
Whether Jess is playing a solo, duo or full band gig, collaborating with other talented musicians from the greater Syracuse area or playing as a “go to” artist in any of a number of festivals, she is both a consummate performer and a musical force of nature!
For the purposes of her Guitar League presentation, Jess will be demonstrating her solo performance skills, as well as discussing the upcoming F.I.R.E. (an acronym for Females. Inspire. Rock. Empower.) Festival she created, organized and is also performing in.
For those who are familiar with Jess Novak’s performances, no further explanation is necessary. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of hearing Jess perform, you truly owe it to yourself to attend her performance at the upcoming Guitar League meeting on Monday evening, Oct. 7th. The only people who will be disappointed when her performance is over will be those who were not in attendance.
Breakout Sessions: 8:00 – 9:00pm
Please bring your acoustic guitar to the meeting to derive the most fun and the maximum benefit from your choice of either of these breakout (group instruction) sessions.
Rookies & Rusties
This session is for beginning (Rookie) guitarists, for those guitarists who are dusting off their guitar playing skills after sometime away from the instrument (Rusties) and for those guitar players who just want to experience the fun of learning some new songs together in a group setting that they can then add to their repertoire. Jim Flynn will be capably leading this breakout session. Song sheets with the lyrics and chords to the songs we’ll be working on will be sent out to those on the GL group email system. Please print these and bring them to the meeting along with your acoustic guitar, a music stand (if you own one), and your willingness to sing and play guitar at the same time. (P.S. A limited number of copies of the song sheets will be available at the meeting for those people joining this breakout session for the first time).
Song Circle
For those who would like to perform a song of their choosing for a group of new, non-judgemental and welcoming guitar playing friends. Bryan Dickenson, one of our most prolific singer / songwriters in Guitar League does a great job leading this breakout session, which is excellent preparation for anyone who aspires to begin performing at open mics or other public venues. Each person in the circle has an opportunity to play a song for the rest of the song circle.
Those who wish to do so can also opt to hang out and discuss music and performance tips with Jess Novak, our main presenter. She has a wealth of knowledge gained through both classical instruction and practical performing experience.
