Wednesday

Calling all activists and organizers! In conjunction with our current exhibition, “ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE: Posters by Ricardo Levins Morales” ArtRage Gallery, the Syracuse Peace Council and Syracuse Cultural Workers invite you to a workshop that will address the value and uses of art in social change organizing, education and healing.

Grounded in Ricardo’s practice of art as a form of social and cultural medicine, and drawing on his decades of direct experience, we will explore how it can be applied a wide variety of situations. Participants will consider how to adapt the principles of creativity and narrative strategy to their own work and life situations.

This is a free workshop 7-9 pm. Please register by emailing your name and any organization affiliation to info@artragegallery.org

Thursday

Funk ‘n Waffkes hosts Skalloween.
In 2013 on the college campus of SUNY Oneonta, the band Baked Potatoes could be found playing just about every house party, skate shop, and dive bar in town. In the years following Pat and the rest of the Baked Potatoes graduated college and recorded their first Full Length Album ‘Loaded’ (2016) to much critical acclaim. Baked Potatoes played with the likes of John Brown’s Body, Roots of Creation, Bumpin’ Uglies, Magic Giant, Rubblebucket, & The Hip Abduction as well as performing the Great South Bay Music Festival (NY), The Jersey Shore Music Festival (NJ), Sterling Stage (NY) and more. Following graduating from SUNY Oneonta and releasing their first Album, the band found themselves taking a hiatus as the original members moved to Ohio, Arizona, Tennessee, and Alaska. Aaron and Pat decided to live on a bus, continuing to play music and drive up and down the east coast Busking on the street. In 2018 Pat had moved back to Syracuse, and no longer living on the bus, started to remake the Baked Potatoes with Syracuse Musicians (Salt Potatoes, if you will). Unable to capture the original magic of the band, Pat shifted focus and started releasing music as Pat Tato. The sound is different, Ambitious, Lyrical, Specific & thought provoking. From 2018-2022 Pat had stepped into the role of Lead Guitarist in the band Vaporeyes. The band released two studio albums, ‘Vaporeyes’(2019) & ‘Cantrips’(2020). Now, in 2024 Pat Tato has started to emerge on the Festival Circuit as an early crowd favorite. Combining setlists of old Baked Potatoes songs with New Pat Tato songs, as well as evolving and maturing into the New Sound that is ‘Pat Tato & the Baked Potatoes’, look for this name on Spotify Playlists, Festival Lineups, and Venues in your city!

Dark Holloween with Dark Hollow at Middle Ages Beer Hall

“There’s nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.” Those old bumper stickers have seen a lot of mileage over the years. It was in the spirit of creating in the moment – the live concert experience, and a love of ‘The Great American Songbook’ that inspired the founding members of Dark Hollow to set out on their journey back in 1996. They’ve sought to carry on the Dead’s live tradition and tap into the collective band/crowd relationship that transforms ordinary moments into magic.

Dark Hollow has been paying tribute to the music of the Grateful Dead for 28 years. Known for their dynamic performances, the band crafts songs from the extensive Dead family catalog to create unique concert experiences. Their ability to move seamlessly between songs and musical styles enables them to tell a musical story that both honors the original song versions and allows the band members to create new interpretations. And when the special moments arrive, they aim to elevate the room and lift your collective feet off the ground. To tap into the energy between the band and the audience.

Featuring:
Mike O’Hara (Lead Vocals)
Mike Vincitore (Lead Guitar)
Mike Hamilton (Rhythm Guitar)
Elliot Jarvis (Bass Guitar)
Pat Shaughnessy (Keyboards)
Jeff Roney (Drums)
Jack Jarvis (Drums)
