This week’s picks to get up, get out and get down.

Thursday

Modafferi (Mo•da•free) at Funk ‘n Waffles w/s/g Mattydale Music Collective 8PM.

If Tom Petty and Elvis Costello had a love child, it would sound like Modafferi. Singer songwriter, Brian Modafferi, fronts the band with his power soulful voice, rolling out great originals, rare covers and groovy b-sides by much loved, but seldom heard artists Expect a soulful, empowering live show, with funky melodic lyrical rock and roll.

Friday

Join us for a very special, intimate, and stripped-down acoustic show with Sirsy at The 443 7 PM.

SIRSY is fronted by powerhouse vocalist Melanie (Mel) Krahmer, who is described as “one of the most powerful & flexible voices you’ll ever hear.” (-Times Union). Aftertaste Magazine said, “Bursting and belting out emotion and substance, she can be the queen of ‘in the groove’ rocking or be simple and delicate.” Still, there is more to Mel than her soul-inspired vocals: she also plays a full drum kit while standing up (she’s been featured in Modern Drummer Magazine and is officially endorsed by Paiste Cymbals and Vater Percussion). At their live shows, Mel also plays bass parts with a drum stick (on a keyboard mounted on her drums). She even throws in an occasional flute solo, too. Guitarist Rich Libutti plays a well-loved and road-worn Rickenbacker through a pedalboard full of vintage effects. “The guitar player is flawless and raw. Clean enough to be enjoyed, and just edgy enough to make you grin.” (-SXSW Music Blog, Austin TX). Live, Rich also plays bass on a keyboard with his feet.

Mel & Rich’s friend Erin Harkes is opening the show. Erin is a singer/songwriter. She’s a full time musician. She’s also a part time standup comedian. Whatever she is doing she is doing it on stage! The 443 is an 18+ venue. Reservations recommended.

Saturday

Free to attend family friendly event with crafters, artists and local small businesses at McCarthy Mercantile.

Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers, Wendy Sassafras Ramsay, Josh Dekaney, and John Dancks reunite to perform Almost There, SAMMY winner for Best Americana, and other Pepper and Sassfras originals. Doors 7, music 7:30 at Steeple Coffee House in Fayetteville.
