Week of May 6, 2024

I just visited Montreal and as beautiful as it was it proved that CNY has so much to offer. We have museums, churches, great architecture, outdoor spaces and waterfront activities. Our music scene is evident and thriving. We really are lucky. Here’s what’s cookin’ this week.

Wednesday

Make mom a gift or even better make a craft with her with Right Mind Syracuse.

Join us for a Mosaic Workshop at Riseform Brewing Co.! During this workshop your host, Ashe of Forged from Ashe Studios, will teach you the basics of making a mosaic! She’ll go over the basics of breaking and shaping ceramic and glass tile, how to use the tile grinder to shape your pieces and how to grout your piece. Then you’ll use your new skills to make a mosaic bird! A variety of found materials and tiles will be available but may vary slightly from photo depending on supplier availability. White grout will be used for this project, as in the photo. Birds measure about 6 x 3.5″

Feel free to bring any quarter size baubles or trinkets you want to include in your project. This is just optional if there’s something you have that you really want to include.

This event is for ages 12+.

This event will be in the taproom at Riseform. You’re welcome (and encouraged!) to purchase beverages there and indulge during our class. The brewery does not serve food, but we recommend you check out some of the neighboring restaurants and bring your own!

For this workshop, you will be seated next to other guests as we’ll all be at their two larger tables, but when you register we’ll ask you to tell us who is in your party so we can ensure you all get seats next to each other.

Late night show at Al’s featuring Shawn Seals & SMX. 10 pm free show.

Dan is an active Rochester-area songwriter, performer, teacher, and audio engineer. Growing up in a musical family, he learned to play guitar, banjo and mandolin from his grandparents and went on to study Music Recording and Ethnomusicology. In addition to recording and performing his own music for over a decade, he has also been teaching private lessons professionally for over 9 years. He has shared the stage with national Americana acts such as Shovels & Rope, Sarah Lee Guthrie, The Low Anthem and Darlingside. When performing solo acts, Dan’s mastery of guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin lend to his vast knowledge of American Roots music, particularly New York State folk tunes! His original music swings indie folk, with skillful fingerpicking, ballad-like lyrics, and an ardent drive. A sample of original music can be found on Spotify, under Mammal is a Mountain, linked here: ( https://is.gd/Lynch )

Next head to Oneida to check out the new dive bar, The Blind Squirrel Pub, and listen to Rocky Feola Music.
