The Oswego Players open their 5th Show of their 80th anniversary season with a Dinner Theater Presentation of the comedy “Social Security.” Inez Manor Parker directs this fine cast of talented actors in the Broadway Hit in dinner theater style on October 18th and 19th at the Church of the Resurrection in Oswego, NY. The evening starts at 6:30 PM with a yummy home cooked meal and desert prepared by none other than the “ladies” of the church. Following dinner, the show begins at 7:30 PM with this fun performance.
Social Security is a play by Andrew Bergman that focuses on trendy Manhattan art gallery owners Barbara and David Kahn, whose life is upended when her Mineola housewife sister Trudy deposits their eccentric mother Sophie on the couple’s doorstep while she and her husband Martin head to Buffalo to rescue their precocious college student daughter from a very strange relationship. Barbara and David introduce Sophie to suave artist Maurice Koenig, who offers to paint her portrait and soon begins to brighten her life in ways she never expected in her twilight years.
After twenty-six previews, the Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols, opened on April 17, 1986 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, where it ran for 388 performances. The Oswego Players production of Social Security is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc..
