The recently released debut album by Syracuse’s OTB shows a band who wears their many influences on their sleeves and combines those influences in a sound that is dearly needed in the CNY music scene, that being the sound of loud, guitar based rock n roll with just a slight taste of jam band unpredictability to it.
Sounding like a mélange between 90’s alternative, Seattle grunge and Palm Desert “stoner rock” Lost in the Loud jumps right out of the gate with the stomping lead off track “The Fool” which swings like STP, and sets the tone for the rest of the album with some killer guitar that accents the song and doesn’t try to talk over the vocals.
F#cked Earth is a spacy almost Zepplinish track but without the fanboy silliness of say..Greta Van Fleet.
Each song on the album comes complete with killer vocals and hard driving rock n roll guitars.
What OTB do, that heretofore has been missing from the Syracuse scene is bring back that heavy rocking but not quite heavy metal sound back and puts it right into your melted faces, and they do so with reverence to the music that influenced them while at the same time developing their own swagger and take on the genre. Music that makes me want to get baked in the parking lot before the show and camp out near the biggest speaker in the place when the show starts.
