The first Rock for Recovery benefit concert was held at The Palace Theater to support Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare. Atkins Riot, Climbing Stars, Molina, Late Earth and The Black River performed in that order. Ashley Forshee organized the event for Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare with the help of Evan Bujold (Late Earth lead and Palace Commons employee) after meeting last fall at The Palace Theater’s showing of “Reversing the Stigma.” We discussed how willing the music community is to support each other as well as good causes. There is a lot of cross over between music, art, therapy, promotion, photo/video and venues. It allows for a great deal of creative collaboration. Everyone has some experience or connection to mental and behavioral health struggles. The organization promotes recovery from the effects of substance abuse and other behavioral issues. Case management, education and residential services are offered to aid in withdrawal and stabilization.
