Root Shock, It’s Good For Your Soul.

The blend of Reggae and Soul with a smooth rhythm from the bass, drums and percussion will get you on your feet dancing.

Cold October evening, you know the kind, Syracuse seems to slow down a bit trying to hold off the inevitable cold blast and snow that’s on its way. Maybe even a bit of depression sets in missing the summer nights. However, there are somethings to look forward to, the color change of the leaves on the trees and the holidays. If you forgot all this then what you need is an evening with Root Shock.

The blend of Reggae and Soul with a smooth rhythm from the bass, drums and percussion will get you on your feet dancing. This past Monday evening at SubCat studios I enjoyed my 1st time seeing Root Shock perform, another gem in Central New York.

When you hear Root Shock play, live or a recording be prepared to move the chairs to dance and fill your soul with the positive energy of Jessica Brown and Phil Grajko’s lyrics and the heavy beat from the bassist Bill Eppel and Tyre Outerbridge on drums, topping this off with precision and a delecate touch to detail is Jason “Jocko” Randell on percussion and the lively Brian Lauri on keys and synthesizer.

In the studio we were all swaying and rocking in our chairs. I am sure I was not the only one that wanted to fold my chair up and start dancing. We all held it together and stayed in our seats even after Phil said “This is the part of the night we ask you to all get up” If we did the video on Subcat’s website would have been a blur of bodies grooving and you wouldn’t have seen the band. I am sure whether you catch this show on The Rebel’s Soundcheck, Sunday at 9pm or on the Subcat Studio’s website the next Monday be prepared not to stay seated. Personally I left there uplifted and full of a renewed energy. Thank you, Root Shock and thank you Dave Frisina for sharing the best of Central New York’s Musicians with us all.
