“Smooth Jazz Sunday” comes to The Beginning II on July 1st from 1pm -6pm, with live music from two
of Central New York’s most popular jazz bands. E.S.P. and the Longwood Jazz Project will team up to fill
the afternoon with groovy jazz on the bar’s outdoor stage.
Plus the kitchen will be open, serving up summer fare as well as their famous Chicken Wings with a
secret recipe sauce which has been touted as the best in Syracuse. And to top it off, the bar will be
serving up beer, wine and many handcrafted libations-perfect for a Sunday afternoon.
Since 1982, The Beginning two, has always been a mainstay for live music in Central New York. Owner
Mike Krajacic even named the bar after the famous song “Beginnings” from the band Chicago. “Over
the years, I have had acts ranging from Buddy Rich to Marshal Tucker” says Krajacic. “So this is the
perfect spot to host a new live music tradition”
Triple SAMMY award winners E.S.P. will kick things off at 1pm, playing familiar tunes as well as several
selections from their latest release “Zero Gravity”. Guitarist John Magnante, bassist Matthew Vacanti
and drummer Evan Duchene will be joined by a special guest, the legendary Jeff Stockham on trumpet,
adding a touch of Miles Davis to the afternoon. As an added bonus, Vocalist Kirsten Tegetmeyer will join
the group for a few numbers. “We love outdoor shows! The Beginning two is a great spot to have live
jazz on the lawn” says Vacanti. “A lawn chair, cool jazz and a glass of wine – the makings of a perfect
Sunday afternoon.”
The second half of the day will feature the Longwood Jazz Project, a high energy quintet, that places its
own eclectic stamp on traditional and contemporary jazz, covering jazz greats like Jeff Lorber, Yellow
Jackets, David Sanborn, and Kirk Whalum. Lead by saxophonist Scott Remillard, the group is the
perfect soundtrack for summer with drummer Gary Iacovelli, keyboardist Tom Witkowski, bassist Vynce
Watson and vocal styling by T.K. Howard. “I love the idea of joining two top groovy jazz bands on one
show.” Says Remillard. “For me, this will be the event of the summer!”
For the last set, a rousing finale will take place featuring members from both groups.
