The Town Pants “Something to Say”

Syracuse musicians join this well known band.

Canadian Celtic folk rock band (say that 3x fast), The Town Pants, has been touring with two local musicians in their pack. Jeff Tripoli (drums) and Blake Propst (bass) are the new rhythm section. They join Duane Keogh (guitar, vocals, spoons), Dave Keogh (mandolin, banjo, guitar, tin whistle, vocals), and Johanna So (fiddle, vocals). Keith Rose played bass on the last album. Propst is brand new joining Tripoli as the second Syracusan in the band.

The Town Pants are known for headlining Celtic and Rock festivals spanning the globe. Their latest album, Something to Say, was the band’s fifth release. The album contains many things you’d expect from this genre. It includes songs reminiscent of the Braveheart soundtrack and Dropkick Murphys. The title track is a high energy, likeable tune. It was a strong start. The next makes me wonder what exactly happened at Monkey Run? The Long Way Back takes you on a journey. The orchestra pulls at your heart strings. Broken is an introspective song. “I’m broken and I can’t fix me. What brings me up will also bring me down.” These lyrics are relatable to many people you might find out listening to live music to cope with or balance out the weight of life. Eliza Anderson spoke to the captain in me. It is an urgent tale of a “floating coffin” in 1897. The chorus lends itself to a sing a long. “Red sky in the morning, Sailors take warning.” Resilience showcases the fiddle. Only one really feeling the music can emit such a story. It’s truly beautiful and deserves to be on a soundtrack or closing credits for an epic film.

Livestreams Sunday, March 29 and Tuesday, March 31 will be available on their Facebook page.
