Please bring an open mind + $10-20 to donate to the artists.\nTATSUYA NAKATANIw/ Trillium Free Music Groupand Poetry from Bee\nTATSUYA NAKATANI :: solo improvised performance for percussion + bowed gongTatsuya Nakatani is an avant-garde percussionist\, composer\, and artist of sound. Active internationally since the 1990s\, Nakatani has released over 80 recordings and tours extensively\, performing over 150 concerts a year. His primary focus is his solo work and his large ensemble project\, the Nakatani Gong Orchestra. He teaches master classes and lectures at universities and music conservatories around the world. Originally from Japan\, he makes his home in the desert town of Truth or Consequences\, New Mexico. With his activity in new music\, improvisation\, and experimental music\, Nakatani has a long history of collaboration.\nNakatani’s distinctive music centered around his adapted bowed gong\, supported by an array of drums\, cymbals\, and singing bowls. In consort with his personally hand-carved Kobo Bows\, he has spent decades refining and developing his sound as an arrangement of formations of vibrations\, incorporated in shimmering layers of silence and texture. He sings and writes passionately about the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Pete Seeger hailed him as “One of the finest singers and songwriters of our time.”\nCharlie has been at the heart of American folk music for over half a century and has been writing songs for the past 45 years. In October of 2017 he received the annual the Phil Ochs Award\, in recognition of his music and activism for social and political justice in the spirit of Phil Ochs. His songs have been recorded and sung by other performers such as Pete Seeger\, Holly Near\, Ronnie Gilbert\, John McCutcheon\, Arlo Guthrie\, Peggy Seeger\, Chad Mitchell and Judy Small.\nColleen is an award-winning bilingual vocalist songwriter who stirs listeners with her clear voice\, collective spirit and rhythmic sensibility. NERFA showcase artist Colleen Kattau’s music has been featured on Democracy Now\, and she performs at Phil Ochs nights. Her compositions are full of nature\, social movements\, and Latin American nueva canción.
