DESCRIPTION:Free Concert | Doors open at 7:00 PM\nWilliam Kanengiser has forged a career that expands the possibilities of the classical guitar. A prize-winner in major competitions (1987 Concert Artists Guild International Competition\, Toronto Guitar ’81) he has toured throughout North America\, Asia\, and Europe with his innovative programs and expressive musicianship.\nAs a founding member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet\, William Kanengiser has given hundreds of recitals and concerto appearances around the world\, and has recorded over a dozen releases. Their Telarc release “LAGQ Latin” was nominated for a GRAMMY®\, and it was their Telarc title “LAGQ’S Guitar Heroes” which won a GRAMMY® in 2005 as the best classical crossover recording. Most recently\, their recording of the title work on Pat Metheny’s “Road to the Sun” hit #1 on the Apple Music Classical chart.\nHe recorded four CD’s for the GSP label\, playing music as diverse as Caribbean\, Eastern European\, and jazz. A member of the guitar faculty at the USC Thornton School of Music since 1983\, he has given master classes around the world and produced two instructional videos.\n\nA prolific arranger\, he has created dozens of transcriptions for solo guitar and guitar quartet\, and composed a number of works for four guitars. In 2009 he created the stage production “The Illustrious Gentleman Don Quixote” for narrator and guitar quartet\, writing the stage script and adapting music from the Spanish Renaissance. Conversation to follow with Joe Hagen\, Skaneateles Schools Alumnus and Executive Director of Off The Dock.\nPresented in partnership with Off the Dock.\nA Skaneateles native\, Joe Hagen is a professional violist\, composer\, audio engineer\, and a founding member of Off The Dock Chamber Festival. A Graduate of the Eastman School of Music\, Joe’s compositions and arrangements have received millions of views through collaborations with social media content creators such as Mr. Beast and channel’s like Pixel Playhouse. Joe is an active performer\, playing for documentary and film soundtracks\, symphonic orchestras in the LA metropolitan area\, and taking solo engagements for performances both of classical repertoire and his own music.\n\nBrian Gadbow was raised in nearby Whitesboro NY and came up through the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra under the tutelage of Syracuse Symphony Cellist Greg Wood. During this time he made solo debuts with the Syracuse Symphony and as a winner of The Skaneateles Festival’s Robinson Award. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music\, he spent his time there as principal cellist of The Eastman Philharmonia. From 2021-2023 Brian earned a Master’s from University of Delaware where he studied under the mentorship of the Calidore String Quartet and won numerous prizes for solo and chamber performance. From the classroom to the concert stage\, he has shared his love of music inspiring both young and old alike.\nHis eclectic repertoire includes an assortment of solo guitar works from the Renaissance to the present day. A large portion of his music focuses on Spanish & Latin American Guitar Masterpieces. His repertoire consists of original works composed for guitar as well as transcriptions from many musical sources.\nHe has performed at local schools\, colleges\, libraries\, guitar festivals and a number of performing arts organizations. Some of these appearances include the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate NY\, the Crane School of Music\, the Day of Guitar Festival\, the Great Lakes Guitar Society\, Onondaga Community College\, the Setnor School of Music\, Skidmore College\, the Tiffany Concert Series\, Civic Morning Musicals\, Syracuse Sound of Music and the Temple Society of Concord.\nJohn enjoys collaborating in a number of musical projects. He often is an accompanist and has performed with various ensembles. These include guitar duos\, ensembles and additional duos with violin\, flute and mandolin. His most recent endeavor being the Foutch/Ferrara Flute & Guitar Duo. He has also recorded for Mel Bay Publications and is credited on the Don Miller Guitar Ensemble Series.\nIn addition to honing his skills as a performing artist\, John is an award winning teacher and entrepreneur. John is an instructor to a large number of students at the Music School of CNY. This school was envisioned by Ferrara offering many lesson programs for students of all types. DESCRIPTION:We are so excited that Gohar Vardanyan is coming to Skaneateles Library April 4\, 2025 !!!!!Gohar Vardanyan (b. 1984) is an acclaimed Armenian-American classical guitarist recognized for her technical mastery\, artistic expression\, and passionate performances. She has captivated audiences across the United States and internationally\, appearing at prestigious venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington\, DC. She has performed for major guitar societies in Seattle\, San Francisco\, Houston\, Miami\, and New York City\, among others\, and has been featured on National Public Radio (USA) and Radio Nacional (Argentina).\nMs. Vardanyan has collaborated with the Juilliard Opera Center and has appeared as a soloist with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra\, Island Symphony Orchestra\, and the Panama National Symphony Orchestra. She has also been a featured artist at international guitar festivals in Sweden\, Italy\, Panama\, Canada\, and Mexico. Her artistry has been recognized on the cover of Classical Guitar Magazine\, and Guitar International Magazine has praised her as “the complete package” with “a musicality and emotional quality beyond her years\,” highlighting both her compelling interpretations and virtuosic technical ability.\nBeyond her performing career\, Ms. Vardanyan is a dedicated educator and recording artist. She has released two albums\, her debut album Paisajes and her more recent – Grand Solos. She is also the author of four instructional books published by Mel Bay Publications and has an extensive collection of instructional and performance videos available on both her YouTube channel and the Strings by Mail channel. She maintains a private teaching studio in New York City and regularly conducts master classes and technique workshops during her concert tours.\nBorn in Armenia\, Ms. Vardanyan began studying guitar at the age of five under the guidance of her father\, Vardan Vardanyan. By eight\, she had already made her public debut and appeared on Armenian National Television. She was a first-prize winner in the Armenian National Music Contest Amadeus and was selected for the prestigious “New Names” program for exceptional young musicians. Her early performances took place at renowned venues such as Komitas Chamber Music Hall and the Small Philharmonic Hall in Armenia. She continued her studies with Antigoni Goni at Juilliard’s Pre-College Division (New York) before attending the Interlochen Arts Academy (Michigan) under the mentorship of John Wunsch. She later earned the Young Artist’s Certificate from Interlochen Center for the Arts and received the Harold Randolph Prize in Performance from the Peabody Conservatory.\nMs. Vardanyan holds a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School\, where she studied with Sharon Isbin\, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory\, where she trained under Manuel Barrueco.
