A Lovely Time 2021 Recap

Fest Success

I hesitated to write anything up because it felt like words couldn’t give it justice. You just gotta be there. It is A Lovely (freaking) Time. But they say a picture is worth a thousand words so I hope you enjoy my full album linked here

Descriptions by concert attendees included “grassroots, “community,” and “attention to detail.” The effort that the crew put in was obvious and each year they have expanded on their vision. It was the loveliest time of all…. so far. The festival always promises to be better. Charlie Giancola said that the Rabbit Lounge would be improved upon for next year. The Skate bowl project took up a lot of their time and was well worth it. It was full of skaters and spectators all weekend. The disc golf course is up and running. Camping seemed to go on forever and was proof ticket sales were up. When we got there we were all commenting on how many people we didn’t know. Though the fest is still CNY heavy on performers and vendors there were people from all over the state as well as some we met from Massachusetts. This was the third event and it is still growing. I am one of the originals and will continue looking forward to marking this on my calendar each year. Big props to Nick Feeley, Drew Shoup, Charlie Giancola and everyone at Snow Ridge for a super success.

Driving up it rained and driving back it rained. Somehow we lucked out and had dry weather for the duration. I will attribute that to all the positive vibes there. Some highlights for me were Cake Eater’s DJ set, the skateboard competitions, and morning Yoga. The whole event makes for a very active and well rounded experience. My phone clocked in about 5 miles of walking each day. I hate to sit still so it is a perfect setting for constant wandering. The Ninja Barracks were set up with guides. Tie Dye, henna, ceramic painting and vendors filled in Shady Grove. Workshops were scheduled throughout. There were creek hangs and trips to waterfalls. The Little Room group from the Gear Factory had art set up. The bonfire was a phoenix built by Andy Padula signifying the rise from ashes after the pandemic.

Will Fuegel and Alec LaBounty both did an amazing job with sound and lights. New bands from Syracuse included OTB and The Salinas. Vaporeyes performed an epic set. Buggin’ Out was the perfect soundtrack for the skate park. Keep an eye on their website and social media for announcements on dates and musician and vendor sign ups for 2022.
