Local Music Releases of 2020

2020 brought all kinds of craziness. It has been a challenging year for everyone in one way or another. I have enjoyed watching the people who have dealt with it creatively. There were more music releases than I could keep up with in my own 2020 whirlwind so here are some highlights I don’t want you to miss. Please take some time to show some local love over the holidays. I update my local Spotify playlist regularly here.

  1. All Poets and Heroes released Occhiolism along with some really cool lyric videos.
  2. Major Player released Upset City accompanied by an insightful podcast.
  3. Vaporeyes all moved in together and released their own solo work as Evil Key, Pat Tato  and Echosonic. Check out their newest band creation Cantrips.
  4. Mattydale Music Collective came out with No Thief. However Skillful. The video for “Mother Earth” and “Father Time” is beautifully done by Bill Drew.

5. Ashley Cox delighted me with some surprise singles.

6. Michael Frisina composed a beautiful tribute to our beloved Jack O. Bocchino.

7. Mike Gibson of The Action! released 14 songs on Rocketboy & The California Smoke. The band also published their 5th annual Christmas Family Spectacular video.

8. Shiggy, Dom Scicchitano, gave us some Late Night Flow vibes.

9. BOHO HOBO, creators of the Bindlism podcast, ventured into lo-fi music with Elements.

10. Anthony Saturno , guitar virtuoso, released a solo album and new Atkins Riot.

11. Byron Cage gave us The Price of Freedom and has another album on the way.

12. Amanda Rogers released an album perfect for the season, Winter Butterfly.

13. Jessica Brown, of Root Shock, broke out with a few singles and is busy with her jewelry store.

14. Trauma Cat dropped a few bizarre posts to promote their new music.

15. Keep Up released an EP, Win Some, Lose None, and is half way through their 12 Days of Christmas cheer.

16. Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers released a single and coordinated The Acoustic Guitar Project focusing on young musicians this year.

17. Joe Altier, Just Joe, gave us some personal insight with his album Breakdown. I loved hearing his original music.

18. Chuck Schiele is dropping Love Letters, a powerful project, next week along with a video for “Climb.”

19. The Jess Novak Band premiered Standing Now with a performance at SubCat Studios and a live show at The Nelson Odeon.  Novak is killing it on her Twitch stream with weekly themes.

20. Charley Orlando has been busy recording. Check out the “Life” collab with Dexter Grove.
